More than 90% of the lights are imported

A member of the Lighting Manufacturers Association said: The lack of mandatory standards and weak customs laws have caused more than 90% of the market’s lights to be owned by Chinese products.

Mr. Ali Amoli added in an exclusive conversation with Sedavasima news agency: The import of lights started in the early 80s and reached its peak in the 90s, causing companies with 50 years of experience in this industry to stop operating.

He stated that there is the ability to produce all kinds of office, commercial, urban, hospital and household lights in the country. The variety of production of domestic products reaches 800 types of lamps in some production units, and manufacturers try to maintain their markets and customers by diversifying their production, but imports have limited the opportunity of competition and market share for the industry’s activists.

Ameli stated that, for example, in the production of LED lights, domestic production capacity meets the country’s needs, but it is imported, he said: The legislator approved the law prohibiting the import of similar goods in order to support production, but after the law was passed, not only was production not supported, but due to some flaws in the customs laws; The space for import became easier.

He added: In the discussion of customs tariffs, there is a tariff line called other, which has caused the space to circumvent the law for the importer, and in the name of components and parts, a complete lamp is imported.

A member of the Lighting Lamps Manufacturers Association stated that the other import problem in the lighting lamp industry is the lack of mandatory standards for these products and said: There is no mandatory standard in the field of lighting lamps, and if the standards of this product are accurately formulated, maybe 50% of the import problem in this industry will be solved.
